Snuffbox Design (Print)
Pierre Moreau
Within a double-lined frame, a design for a circular snuffbox, with a view of the lid from above, in the upper center and a view of the side, in the lower center. In the center of the lid, a seated putti holding a rifle with a hand on a dog in a rural landscape. The roundel miniature is surrounded by a band of alternating shell and palmette motifs with a garland of flowers. An outer band along the edge featuring leaves and a ribbon. The side of the snuffbox features a central cartouche of dogs within a rural landscape, framed by shell and fleuron motifs with ‘rocaille’ scrolls, flanked by a band of ‘rocaille’ scrolls and acanthus leaf ornament. A scale in the lower center. The plate is signed, dated, and numbered.
